Double Possibles are now being recorded

In response to numerous requests the FCASA will from this next weekend (30.07.11) be recording Double Possibles. These must be two consecutive 60's or better at the same Range. All other condtions remain the same

Stolle Bros (25.07.11)

New Webmaster team at SAFClass

The South Australian F Class Association wishes to thank our inaugural webmaster Ian Pavy for all his efforts since SAFClass’s inception.
He has put countless hours of work into SAFClass, to promote F Class and bond F Class Shooters in our State.
He was instrumental in the creation of SAFClass, and his original creative ideas have shaped it into a site that is informative and interesting.
It's the place where we go to find what events are coming up, and the results when they’ve finished.

Many thanks Ian.

The Stolle Brothers aim to continue Ian’s successful formula, while injecting some of our own ideas.

SAFClass Webmaster Resigns

It is with some regret that I inform association members that I am leaving the post of webmaster to this website. I think I'm handing over a pretty successful website, that has brought our association members closer together and has kept our membership better informed than ever before.

The FCASA want the website to become more all encompassing than just F-Standard and F-Open so the vision has changed for the direction to be followed. I dont consider myself well enough informed of the other shooting disciplines the committee want represented and am standing down as of today.

If you are interested in taking on the very rewarding role of webmaster for then please contact the association secretary Richard Braund.

Its been fun, see you at the range!

More F-Class Records Fall In F-Open & F-Standard

300M: Rob Richards-Mousley (CTVRC) shot a new F-Std record today, (4-6-2011) at 300 metres. Robert shot a record breaking 60.8 at the Lower Light Rifle range.

800Y: Allen Talbot (PPRC) set a new F-Std record with a score of 60.3 at 800 yards at the Pt. Pirie Rifle Range. (4-6-2011)

300M: Mark Heywood (CTVRC) set a new F-Open record with a score of 60.7 at 300 metres at the Lower Light Rifle Range. (4-6-2011)

600M: Ian Pavy (MBRC) set a new F-Open record with a score of 60.5 at 600 metres at the Monarto Rifle Range. (4-6-2011)

15 Shot Records Will Now Be Officially Recorded

10 shot record scores have been kept since the start of this year and have proved to be popular with the F-Class community and have promoted friendly rivalry and competition. We as an association are collecting data on records shot across SA and members have requested that records be kept for 15 shot scores.

15 shot rounds are becoming popular in competitions and the association is pleased to be able to provide the same record keeping and certificate issuing as for the 10 shot rounds. A possible score for a 15 shot round will be 90.15, so to qualify initially for a record score at all ranges both metres and yards, a score of 83.7 or higher will need to be shot.

15 shot record scores can be made commencing next weekend 11-06-2011. Please provide all details as required on the Records page of this website.

Ian Pavy 4-6-2011

60.7 = New 1000 Yard F-Open Record

In heavily overcast but still conditions today (28-05-2011) MBRC member Ian Pavy shot a 60.7 for a new F-Open record score. In the same detail and shooting almost at the same time Paul Janzso shot a 60.4 and on any other day that would have set a record.

At 100 yards 0.5 moa is regarded as accurate but at 10 times that distance shooting 7 in the X ring is something special. "It was certainly a day to remember, I dont generally get excited about shooting a high score but today I could not wipe the smile off my face". The 284 Shehane with 180gr Berger VLDs really hammered the X ring.

F-Class shooters are really getting behind the push to record top scores for each range and the scores are really starting to climb. We are only 5 months into recording records on the ICFRA targets with super centres. We really need to keep claiming records when they are shot, so we can all see how F-Class is progressing and just how high the bar is set.

Loxton Rifle Club Moving Ahead

The club has struggled like other clubs within the DRA11 Riverland with small membership numbers. It is unfortunate having clubs with a small membership which leads to clubs not having the ability or the understanding of progress, you need to have some changes.

The Loxton Club is a testimony that it can be done, changes were made and progress followed. The Loxton Rifle Club now has progressed to 20 full members enjoying the sport of shooting. Also having 19 junior members registered under the DRA11 Junior Development Programme.

There are many disciplines members and visitors can enjoy at the range such as Target Rifle, F-Class open and standard and Optical Rifle hunting class, Field Rifle rimfire - centrefire with Military 3P in the near future.

Lox2 Lox3 Lox4

Having Colin Schwarz DR11 Captain with Frank Dicerbo as vice and Gary Grigson Loxton Rifle Club Captain taking care of the past and current politics has given members the opportunity to progress in the sport of shooting. The Loxton Rifle Club has made many improvements due to this change of direction.

Also the complex has been opened for other organisations to have the opportunity to expand in the sport of shooting as invited guest, this also leads to having a broader use of the Loxton Rifle Range.
Thanks to Jason Vallelonga and Anthony from A Trax Bobcat Tipper Excavator Hire for their recent support of earth works around the club complex.

The Loxton Rifle Club are hosting the DRA11 OPM coming up the first weekend on the 2nd and 3rd of July and all its members are very eager to share and enjoy country hospitality with NRAA members.

Any community member wishing to visit, please contact Loxton Rifle Club Captain Gary Grigson on 0423024203 for details.

Spreadsheet Update

A revised spreadsheet using the BfX Excel add-in has been added to the Downloads page. The spreadsheet now has wind direction included as an input using the clock face analogy of 1 to 12 o'clock.

The spreadsheet still has Miller's stabilty formula and Litz's spin drift approximations included. It now has different name BfX Ballistic Range Chart and I'm running out of ideas of what else target shooter's might want included.

Download the spreadsheet from here: Spreadsheet

New State Record Scores

The last 3 weekends have seen 7 new state record scores added to the Records table. The calm Autum weather may have contributed to this record run. The Kapunda OPM produced 5 new records on the one day!

Mark Heywood shot a 60.4 at 600 metresfor a FO record.
Colin Kuchel shot a 60.7 at 600 yards for a FS record.
Bruce Moulds shot a 60.6 at 500 yards and a 60.3 at 600 yards for a pair of FO records.
Trevor Otto shot a 60.6 at 700 yards for a FS record.

Converting Decimal Scores For Claiming Records

CTV Rifle Club at Lower Light are trialling a decimal scoring system (100.10) on the ICFRA target for 2011. The NRAA scoring system of 60.10 is required for claiming a record score in F-Class. This is easily achieved by deducting 40 from the decimal score.

Decimal 95.5 - 40 = 55.5 in NRAA scoring system. (nice and simple)

There are no excuses now, so lets see some more record scores claimed from CTV at Lower Light!

Note: Our F-Class records are growing with two more records claimed from Pt.Pirie shooters Ben Runkel and Allan Talbot this weekend. Both shot a 60.4 in F-Standard at 600 yards.

F Class Standard State Team Report – Canberra Nov 2010

We had trouble arranging dates for trials and the two planned practices which delayed our preparations. The advantage we had was that we practised on a metric range, the same as the Match conditions in Canberra.

You can never be sure of the weather conditions that Canberra will turn on. This year we had heavy rains a couple of days before arriving, and the weather turned cold and showery for the duration of the matches.

Nevertheless, running second in the 15 shot match at 800m, winning the 700m range [losing only three points] and finally coming second in the Grand Aggregate is an excellent effort considering the small number of available shooters that we could draw upon. Well Done  [PS  NSW was first in both matches]

The highlight was in my opinion, the team - despite only retaining three of our inaugural team from Bendigo. The new members settled in quickly to the procedures, were always on time when called upon, worked well together, and were very professional in carrying out their tasks. I congratulate them for that. The presence of Colin Kuchel OM our Chairman, who visited the range at the very moment we won the 700m Match was a highlight for all the team members.

Uniforms: This year, we completed our uniform by supplying the team with red all-weather coats. They were indeed appropriate for the conditions, and didn’t we look the part representing SA.
It is our practice to take 6 shooters and a Coach. To build experience in these Matches for the future, all 6 shooters shot in a least one match - as occurred in Bendigo as well.
Finally, we thank SARA for covering the costs of the team’s entry, and Richard Braund for arranging accommodation.

I am proud of the team consisting of:
Jim Freebairn [Coach], Malcolm Hill, John Cranwell, Terry Brewer, Steve Cowie, Ben Runkel and
Claudia Richards-Mousley (Manager) for putting together a very solid performance.

Adam Pohl Makes F-Class History

On Saturday 8-01-2011 at the Light River Rifle Club OPM, Adam earned the right to claim two F-Open range records. His claim is the first received by the F-Class Association of SA and is a historic event. Adam will always be known as the first F-Class shooter to claim an official SA record and start our records database and statistics.

Congratulations to Adam for a fine shoot and claiming a 300 m record with a score of 60.5 and a 600 m record with 59.5. Adam now has the top spot on the F-Open metre range leader board till someone claims a higher score! Check the records page for the latest record scores as I'm sure we will see quite a few claimed in the coming months.

Record Claim Form Made Easier (2-1-2011)

A new form (Adobe Distributed Form) has now been made available for use to claim record scores. It no longer requires printing off the form or the need for signatures. The form can be filled in using your PC or Mac and emailed back to the Records Officer.

All thats needed to verify the record is a contact for a club official (Club Captain, Secretary or Range Officer) who was present when the score was shot. The contact info for the club official can be either an email address or telephone number.

The form requires that the free Adobe Reader is installed on your PC or Mac. Download it from the website then open the form and fill it in and follow the prompts to send it on its way to the Records Officer at

Use the disk icon on the form to save it to your PC when downloading it from the website. Dont fill in the form on the website. Download and complete the form and then email it from your home PC. This info will all make good sense when you click on the "Download Form" button on the records page.

Hope this makes it simpler to get those record scores in for 2011. Remember record scores start initially at 55.5 out of a possible 60.10 so if your score is above this why not enter a claim and kickstart our statistics for F-Class.

Click on "Records"from the menu item list and become familiar with this new webpage!

BRT Shooters' Supply has picked up a Berger Bullets distributorship!

Stuart and Annie Elliot are sure to be kept busy with sales of Berger Bullets. Its early days yet and supplies have just been ordered from Berger Bullets but Stuart has assured me over the phone today, that he will be keeping reliable stocks of target projectiles.

He is aware that in the past the Australian distributor (who shall remain nameless) looked after the hunters but really didn't understand the needs of target shooters. Once he gets stocks of the target bullets on the shelves he will sell directly to the public at a fair price. Berger Bullets are aware that their products have been over priced in Australia and allowing other distributors is a way to promote competitive pricing.

I wish Stuart and Annie well with Berger Bullets and am sure their professional manner and prompt service will now be available with target bullet sales!

Mike meets Bob Katter (23-11-2010)

Mike meets Katter
Independent MP Bob Katter

The Riverland Community had the good fortune of having Mr Katter visiting the region. It was a great pleasure meeting Mr Katter and having the same passion and interest in the sport of shooting. Our conversation started off how disappointed he was to lose a family heirloom being A5 Browning Auto Shotgun and I also had to surender my family heirloom being a BREDA Auto Shotgun to the Government buyback.

I support Mr Katter as he is a firearms owner himself and has a very good knowledge and experience of firearms ownership in our country. The plan for his next visit will be to introduce him to the Loxton Rifle Club Members for a F-Class shoot! In the photo with Bob Katter is F-Class shooters from Loxton Rifle Club Tanya Punturiero, Bianca Punturiero and Mike Punturiero
