Port Augusta Prize meeting 22nd May 2010

A comfortable 3.5hr drive took us to the gate way to the Flinders Ranges, Pt Augusta. Travelling with Paul Janzso from Adelaide we arrived early evening and booked into the Shoreline Caravan Park http://www.shorelinecaravanpark.com.au

Paul and I stayed in the backpacker accommodation which costs $35 a night clean and cheap and close to the showers and toilets. We were up at 6am to make ourselves ready for the first day of shooting. The range is only about 7km from where we were staying and very easy to get to. Arriving at the range early enough to have a cuppa and a chat. The turn out was very good 3 people from the Riverland one from Leigh creek and another from Kapunda club travelled the furthest its always good to catch up with our fellow F-Class friends. I how ever was very disappointed that the turn up from Pt Pirie was noticeable absent. The targets we were to use were the new ICFRA with a super V added to all targets.

A good day at the range

SATURDAY
The first 300yd range got under way at approximately 9.00am Conditions were very calm but the occasional pick up would catch people out and the sun being low in the horizon caused a few glare problems for some but was quickly turning into a great day for shooting and the final results were close.

F-Open had A. Pohl on 60.7, P Janzso 60.4, and R. Braund 59.3
F-Standard was hotly contested with F. DiCerbo 58.8,  M. Casey 58.0, K. Terrell 57.5, A. Tanner 57.3

Ron and Arthur at the 400yd line

400yd was the next range after everybody had been treated to some tasty home cooked scones, cake and a hot cuppa.

The wind had come up sightly but conditions were perfect for scope shooting with a nice mirage running RL boil and LR boil and very clear air.

F-Open: 400 yard results were B. Moulds 59.6   A. Pohl 59.3 G. Hutchens 59.3 P, Janzso 58.3
F-Standard: K.Terrell 56. 4,  S. Webb 55.5,   M. Punturiero 54.3, M. Casey 54.1

The Flinders Ranger was a nice backdrop to the Pt. Augusta Rifle Range

Everybody returned to the club house for lunch with a variety of fresh meat & salad rolls also hot pies and pasties. Time to get down and shoot 500yds, conditions were still nice but the wind had strengthened with the occasional let off and pick up.

There wasn’t much separating the top 3 or 4 to take out the day's aggregate in F-Open but Bruce continued to power on ending up with a 60.7 and R. Hatton 60.4, A. Pohl dropped 2 and PJ, 3 points.

F-Standard:  M. Casey 60.7, K. Terrell. 57.1, A. Tanner 56.2, S. Webb 56.1

The sunrise was fabulous but signalled what was coming

The final days shooting was to be 2 X 600 yard 15 shot matches and all the f-class crew were looking forward to the additional 5 shot at the target.|

As we started to proceed the rain started just very light at first but by the time we had finish and went back to the club house the rain started to set in and it was decided by a show of hands vote wether to continue or not “the lets keep dry brigade” won but in the end it was the right decision and the rain became steadily heavier and everyone would have gotten soaked through.
